A colleague sent me a page from Grazia magazine this week, which has a feature “5 Best Booze Apps”.  As you might expect it includes apps for finding bars and taxis, and for choosing wine and cocktails.  One of the apps took me back a little though – it’s called Don’t Dial, and it blocks numbers on your mobile when you are out drinking, so that you can’t call selected people while you’re drunk.

I guess it’s a form of harm reduction – if you can’t call your partner, you can’t have a row, and we know that conflict is more likely when we’ve had a drink or two.  You can’t ring your boss and tell her what you really think of her.  And perhaps best of all, you don’t have to worry about what you can and can’t remember the next day, at least not in terms of your phone.

But if you are drinking to the extent that you are drunk dialling, it might be better to think about the big picture, rather than simply blocking a few numbers on your phone.
